Who Is the Queen's Great-Granddaughter Mia Tindall? (2024)

Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis have their every public move documented by the press, but there's another royal youngster worth watching: 10-year-old Mia Tindall. Here's everything you need to know about the Queen's great-granddaughter.

Mia Grace Tindall was born to Zara and Mike Tindall on January 17, 2014.

Buckingham Palace announced the news of of the birth, and a few days later, Mike, a proud papa, shared his newborn's name via Twitter.

Mia is Zara and Mike's first child. She's also Princess Anne's third grandchild, and is the fourth great-grandchild of Queen Elizabeth. She stole the show in 2016 in a portrait released in honor of the Queen's 90th birthday when she held the monarch's purse. “She just did it,” a source at the palace told People at the time. “She just picked it up—it wasn't staged. It was completely spontaneous.”

She has two younger siblings.

In June 2018, Mike and Zara Tindall welcomed Lena Elizabeth Tindall, making Mia a big sister. Mia was spotted with her parents and her younger sister for the first time at the Gatcombe Horse Trials in September 2018.

March 2021, Mia became a big sister once again when her mom gave birth to a baby boy named Lucas Philip Tindall. "Sunday got even better because a little baby boy arrived at my house," Mia's father Mike shared on a podcast, saying that his son arrived at 6 p.m. "Arrived very quickly. Didn’t make it to hospital. On the bathroom floor," he said, candidly.

Mia and her siblings were spotted at the Burnham Market International Horse Trials in Norfolk in April 2022, where their mom, Zara, was competing.

In August 2022, the Tindalls had a weekend out at the Festival of British Eventing, and Mia was a great big sister to little Lucas as she entertained him and took him on the carousel.

Mia follows her mother, Zara, in the line of succession. Despite her position in line, Mia does not hold a formal royal rank. According to the BBC, children of the daughter of a monarch are not "entitled to the rank of 'Her Royal Highness,'" and when Mia's mother Zara was born in 1981, her parents, Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips, declined to give her a title. (More on the patriarchal way in which royal titles are passed on here.) Since neither her mother nor her father have a royal rank, Mia does not have one either.

Mia played a role in Princess Eugenie's royal wedding.

In October 2018, Mia served as a bridesmaid in Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's royal wedding. Mia was joined by Princess Charlotte, Maud Windsor, Theodora Williams, and her cousins Savannah and Isla Phillips as bridesmaids in the wedding party. Immediately after the ceremony, Mia joined the rest of the adorable bridal party on the steps of St. George's Chapel, where they waved to the crowd of fans.

Mia started making more public appearances with the royal family in 2022.

In June 2022, she joined the rest of her royal cousins during Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee. She watched Trooping the Colour wearing a red flower headband, and was in the royal box for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Pageant. Her dad, Mike, said on his podcast that "my two are always mischievous, so it was trying to keep a lid on," and that the kids had ample access to sugar during the show.

In September, Mia and her sister Lena joined their parents at Westminster Hall during the Vigil of the Princes while their grandmother Princess Anne stood vigil at Queen Elizabeth's coffin, and she joined her cousins Savannah and Isla Phillips at the committal service for their great-grandmother.

She's sporty like her parents.

The daughter of two professional athletes is bound to try out some sports. She's been spotted kicking a soccer ball around on a few occasions:

According to her dad, Mike, she loves horse riding with her cousins Savannah and Isla. "I love that they have the opportunity of working with animals, being outside, all the traditions that you learn with treating an animal - looking after your stuff, looking after the animals and learning good balance, all those skills you learn - but I think Mia will probably want to do her own thing anyway," Mike said.

She also loves to swim. Zara shared of traveling to Australia, "Mia loves swimming. Of course, the climate allows you to be able to go swimming all day every day. When we first took her to Australia she was 11 months old; we kickstarted her love of water."
