This Seasoned Black Beans recipe is exactly what you’ve been looking for!
By utilizing canned black beans, this recipe will show you how to create a simple, flavorful, versatile black bean recipe that you can use for burrito bowls or a even a side dish.
The perfect addition to your taco Tuesday night! They’re even better than Chipotle!
Ingredients You’ll Need to Make Seasoned Black Beans:
- olive oil
- fresh white onion
- minced garlic
- canned black beans
- vegetable broth
- bay leaves
- chili powder
- dried oregano
- cumin
- lime juice
- fresh cilantro
How to Season Black Beans Like Chipotle
Like any good dish, you gotta have the right seasonings to make it legit. Luckily for this recipe you’ll just need a few basic seasonings you probably already have.
Dried bay leaves, sea salt, black pepper, oregano, cumin, and chili powder. The other ingredients are also pretty common.
Allowing the black beans time to simmer will most certainly help add to the overall flavor.
I recommend letting them cook for 25 minutes at the very least. They taste even better the next day!
How to Cook Seasoned Black Beans
What I love most about this recipe is how easy it is to make and the fact that it includes everyday ingredients. The first thing you’ll want to do is round up all of your ingredients.
There’s nothing worse than getting halfway through a recipe only to realize that you’re missing something important!
In a medium sized pot over medium heat, sauté the diced onion and garlic in olive oil (I’m convinced that every good recipe starts this way).
Once the garlic is fragrant and the onions are translucent, add in the remaining ingredients- the canned black beans, vegetable broth, water (or more broth), all seasonings and lime juice.
Stir everything together in order to combine the ingredients, then increase the temperature of the eye to a high setting and bring to a low boil.
Once boiling, reduce the temperature to a medium low setting and allow the mixture to simmer for at least 25 minutes.
It’s important to give the beans time to simmer so that they are able to absorb all of the flavors of the seasonings. This is where the magic happens!
Once done simmering, use a spoon to remove the bay leaves from the Seasoned Black Beans and remove from the eye.
Top with freshly chopped cilantro and enjoy!

These beans are amazing! I was worried the beans would need more flavor once the cooked down but they are perfect! Usually I follow a recipe the first time so I know what I need to tweak the next time but you really can follow the recipe and you don’t need to ask any modifications. -

As soon as I saw this recipe, I decided to make these for dinner. I saw that there is a recipe for cilantro lime rice. I made both for dinner and my family LOVED it! My son made a burrito with the left overs the next day! The beans are so flavorful and delicious. I added a little extra lime juice to the rice because I love lime and lemon. The rice pairs perfectly with the beans. I’m glad that I found this recipe because I have been trying to get my beans to taste like this forever. Apparently, I wasn’t using the right seasonings. No fear, because Desiree is here with the bomb recipes! Thanks, girl. You made life a little bit easier! -

When we bought this house, I’d always dreamed of making it a space I loved. Happy that I got the chance to do just that. 🖤 Now this didn’t happen overnight. It took many months to plan out what I wanted, find all the pieces, then execute (hello board and batten walls!). It was a journey to say the least. Especially for someone who needs to comb through every corner of the internet to ensure I don’t find something I love even more!🫣 ⬇️POLL QUESTION⬇️ Are you into DIY projects?
