Wednesday, May 28, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka. Nancy was born on April 30, 1938, in Constantine, to Guy E. and Angeline C. (Roy) Nelson, both of whom preceded her in death.
On August 20, 1960, Nancy married Richard H. Coppens in White Pigeon, Mich. They moved to the Mishawaka area in 1968 and he preceded her in death on March 13, 1979. She is survived by three daughters, Cara Coppens-Clark, Coleen Coppens and Corinne Coppens, all I of Mishawaka, and two brothers. Douglas E.
Nelson of Shipshewana, and James L. Nelson of Auburn, Ind. Nancy had been working in the St. Joseph County Clerk's Office in Mishawaka for the past eight years. Prior to that, she had taught home economics at Washington Twp.
High School in LaPorte County for eight years until 1968. She was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, the United Religious Community, Democratic Women's Club, active in the Shepherding Program at the Women's Care Center, and was a 4 Fair Judge covering Northern Indiana. Nancy was a 1960 graduate of Ball State University where she received her bachelor's degree in home economics. She completed her studies at I.U.S.B., receiving her master's degree.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 31, and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 1, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, 503 W. Third Mishawaka, where a wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday Services will be at 9 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Women's Care Center. Sept. 9, 1923 Robert L. Magenbush, Robert LeRoy Hagenbush, 73, of 1510 Catherwood Drive, South Bend, died at 12:10 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at his residence following an extended illness.
Robert was born Sept. 9, 1923 in LaPorte County, Ind. He was the son of Ivo and Mabel Kindig Hagenbush. He had resided in the South Bend area for 37 years. Prior to his time in South Bend, he had lived in the Argos community of Marshall County, Ind.
He was married March 19, 1949 in Minneapolis, to Florence Carlson. She survives him at home. He was a union representative for the American Federation of State and Municipal Employees for the State of Indiana, in Indianapolis for 25 years until retiring in 1992. He attended Grace Baptist Church, Plymouth, Ind. and had served his country as a soldier in the U.S.
Army, in the European Theater during World War I1. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 68, in Argos, Ind. Robert is survived by his wife Florence, who resides at home in South Bend; a daughter, Miss Cheryl Hagenbush, of South Bend; a son, Richard of South Bend, a granddaughter, Mrs. Thomas (Karen) Edwards of Argos; a sister, Evelyn Tracy of Argos; and three brothers, Ivo and his wife, Kay Hagenbush, of Tyner, Richard and his wife, Betty Hagenbush, of Argos and Donald and his wife, Jackie Hagenbush, of Peru, Ind. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter. Christy, a son, Robert, and a brother, Wilbur who died in 1936. Funeral services for Mr. Hagenbush will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1, in the Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N.
Michigan Argos, with Pastor Peter Wardlow officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos, where members of American Legion Post 68 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1162 of Plymouth will conduct military rites. Merril A. Newcomer Aug. 20, 1912 May 28, 1997 ELKHART Merril A. Newcomer, 84, died Wednesday evening in Elkhart General Hospital. He was born in Newago, Michigan, August 20, 1912, the son of Jacob and Dora Wagner Newcomer.
During his early years he farmed in the men, Bourbon and Elkhart areas. Mr. Newcomer would drive his horses to Mishawaka and plow snow dur-. ing the winter months. He later worked for the Jimtown Schools as a custodian and bus driver.
He retired from the school system in 1972 after 20 years of service. He was married June 5, 1938 to Ruby Secor. She preceded him in death on March 21, 1978. Surviving are sons, Larry and Robert, and a daughter, Marge Krallman, all of Elkhart; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Lola Weiss, Florence Hollar and Mary Schneider, all of Bremen, and LauraLee Kreig of Bradenton, Fla. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m.
Saturday in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, with Rev. John (Jim) Secor officiating. Burial will be in Olive Cemetery in Elkhart County. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel.

was pro nounced dead late Thursday in Lovola University Medical Center In Maywood. according to a hospital spokeswoman. Her son. Jeffrey Griffin, died in South Bend Memorial Hospital at 9 am Thursday. Jeffrey was brain dead.
accord ing to St Joseph County Coroner Chuck Hurley Hurley ruled the cause of death for Griffin as respi ratory failure and carbon monoxide poisoning. The child also had first- and sec ond-degree burns to portions of his face. arms and upper torso, Hurley said. but the burns were not a factor in the boy's death. Harrell was initially taken to Me morial Hospital in Michigan City.
but later was flown by helicopter to Lovola University Medical Center and admitted to the burn unit. A representative from the Cook County Coroner's office could not be reached for comment on Har rell's cause of death. The woman and child were both unconscious when rescued by firefighters from an upstairs bedroom in their burning home at 612 E. 10th St. about 7:30 a.m.
Tuesday. Other residents of the apartment house made rescue attempts. but were driven back by thick smoke. Thursday that caused an estimated $2.100 in damage to the home of Laquita Aldrigge. in the 1700 block of West Fassnacht Street, city fire officials said. Thelma Alexander. Aldrigge's mother. was babysitting with Aldrigge's 3- year -old son when Alexander's 5-year-old son went into a bedroom.
said Capt. Timothy Paczkowski. fire investigator. The older boy went into a bedroom where he apparently found a lighter on the bed. Paczkowski said.
The boy accidentally set fire to the bed as he was playing with the lighter. Paczkowski said. Alexander was able to get the children out of the house after calling 911. Firefighters responding to the call found smoke coming from the two-story wood frame house. Firefighters were able to remove the burning mattress by pushing it through a win: dow and dousing it with water.
