Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse looks to be the conclusion of Miles Morales' story, which gives it an advantage over Spider-Man: No Way Home, the conclusion of Tom Holland's "Home" trilogy in the MCU. No official release date has been announced, but it is possible Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse might come out in 2025, following a new update regarding the film's production. The same creative team behind the first two films will be returning for the trilogy's conclusion.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will presumably pick up where the second film left off. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse 's ending finishes with an exciting cliffhanger of Miles Morales meeting a variant of himself who happens to be the Prowler. Not only will it be the conclusion of the Spider-Verse trilogy, but possibly the conclusion of Miles Morales' story in the animated franchise. This is something that Spider-Man: No Way Home didn't do, making Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse nailing its ending even more important.

Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse Is Set To End The Movie Series With The Third Film
Fans have seen Miles Morales come into his own in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and refuse to sit back and let tragedy happen in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. It's exciting to think about the possibilities in the third film, but more importantly, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will be the end of the animated film series. Being a definitive end for this particular series makes it feel even more important. The end of Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse sets the stage for possibly the best movie to end the trilogy with.
The Spider-Verse trilogy could be considered the greatest superhero trilogy of all time.
If Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse can live up to remarkably high expectations and reach the same levels as the first two films, the Spider-Verse trilogy could be considered the greatest superhero trilogy of all time. The first film won the Oscar for Best Animated Movie, while Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was also nominated. (It lost to The Boy and the Heron.) There has been an upward trajectory at the box office from the first to the second film, setting the stage for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse to be the highest grossing movie in the trilogy.
Spider-Verse at the Box Office | Opening Weekend | Final Worldwide Total |
---|---|---|
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse | $35,363,376 | $375,464,627 |
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse | $120,663,589 | $681,222,435 |
How Having A Contained Movie Trilogy Makes The Spider-Verse Films Different To The MCU Trilogy
Miles Morales' trilogy will differentiate from Peter Parker's "Home" trilogy by actually being a conclusive story. Spider-Man: No Way Home concludes a chapter in Peter Parker's life, but wasn't a definitive end to his story. It ends with the promise of a new direction for the series, with Peter on his own, with nothing left from his past. It's open-ended in a way that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse might not be.
The MCU's Spider-Man trilogy is also different to every other Spider-Man franchise in one big way so far. It is the first Spider-Man series to make it to the fourth installment after Raimi's series ended while Spider-Man 4 was being worked on and The Amazing Spider-Man never got a third installment. If this new era of Peter Parker in the MCU introduces Miles Morales, it makes sense that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse would be the closing chapter in his animated story.
The Spider-Verse Franchise Is Still Set To Continue
Of course, the franchise as a whole won't end despite the Spider-Verse trilogy concluding its own story. The biggest spinoff so far will be a Spider-Man Noir live action series for Amazon Prime featuring Nicolas Cage as the titular hero. It is currently titled Spider-Noir, but no release date has been announced yet. A Spider-Woman film starring Gwen Stacy is also on Sony's to-do list, as well as the eventual introduction of Miles Morales into live action.
Even though Nicolas Cage will be starring in Spider-Noir, it is not exactly the same Spider-Man Noir that appeared in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Another show that was announced was a live-action series featuring the character Silk. Unfortunately, Silk: Spider Society was canceled after years of development. Despite the news, it's encouraging that Sony wants to continue to build out its Spider-Man universe in interesting ways. They have largely not found success with their Spider-Man villain films, but their Spider-Verse films are remarkable and Spider-Noir looks promising. With the fourth installment of Tom Holland's series possibly including the multiverse again, the possibilities are endless.

Miles Morales' first two Spider-Verse movies are considered some of the best superhero films of all time, in live action or animated. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will have the Herculean task of finishing off the trilogy in thrilling fashion. With it set to finish the trilogy's narrative and possibly Miles' story, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse could be a monumental entry into Spider-Man's film history, and give it an advantage over Spider-Man: No Way Home, which didn't see the end of Peter Parker's story.
