Senior Principal Scientist, Oncology Drug Discovery (2024)

About the Role

Your Key Responsibilities:

Craft and validate assays for upcoming targets and drive exploratory research in the fields of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and Prostate cancer alongside our target discovery and validation teams to identify and lead new target prosecutions and initiate new drug discovery projects.

Enhance our antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) portfolio through innovative assay development and investigation into new payload opportunities.

  • Manage and guide the incorporation of ADC-LMW (low molecular weight) workflows.
  • Leverage and identify external collaboration opportunities to aid project progression.
  • Aid in Business Development & Licensing (BD&L) - Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) workflows.
  • Lead decision-making procedures on multidisciplinary projects/teams and drive them towards completion.
  • Provide robust management to 1-2 associates, offering guidance and mentorship to deliver notable results.
  • Facilitate cross-site and internal multi-disciplinary teams towards project progression to PS, Project Execution (PE), and beyond.

Role Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelors degree
  • At least 15 years of relevant drug discovery experience is required, including a track record of advancing target validation workflows.
  • Strong scientific background with significant experience in assay development and validation
  • Track record of delivering candidates for clinical development
  • Leadership skills, decision-making acumen, and experience in mentoring others
  • Ability to engage positively with a multidisciplinary team and demonstrated ability to progress scientific projects to completion.
  • Exceptional communication skills

Desirable Requirements:

  • Familiarity with BD&L and MTA processes is not required but will be considered a plus.

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $151,200-$226,800/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
