IT

Rocket Lab’s IT team is responsible for how our global teams access information and run operations across our computer systems, networks, and devices. Our hardworking IT team is a group of flexible problem-solvers working in a fast-paced environment but who also thrive under the challenge of supporting all of our proprietary systems and people, from finance to launch operations.

IT INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGER - OPERATIONS

Located onsite at Rocket Lab’s global headquarters in Long Beach, CA, the IT Infrastructure Manager role will be responsible for providing guidance and mentorship for the platform, cloud, and integration teams as well as leading the design, implementation, and operation of:

  • The different operating system environments that are in use at Rocket Lab.
  • The different cloud computing platforms and applications (Azure, AWS, and O365, Penguin, etc) that are required at Rocket Lab.
  • The global infrastructure, integration, and maintenance of the systems that Rocket Lab uses on a day-to-day basis.
  • All networks and firewalls at Rocket Lab following required security controls.

Reports to the Director of IT Infrastructure

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO:

  • Enable Rocket Lab Engineers to develop the next generation of rockets and space systems, via the deployment and management of highly reliable and scalable infrastructure technology globally.
  • Manage and provide effective guidance to the team. Set goals, tasks, and deadlines as well as KPIs and other metrics to provide well defined performance expectations. Discover training needs and provide coaching.
  • Provides subject matter expertise, advise, and guidance to deliver and support IT systems through efficient management of the company infrastructure and the delivery of projects.
  • Lead project planning and deployment for IT and cloud infrastructure projects in support of Annual Operating Plans.
  • Function(s) at Rocket Lab through the implementation of Standards for the deployment and management of the different platform environments to ensure:
    • Compliance, Cybersecurity policies, standards, and procedures.
    • Improvements to increase reliability of systems
    • Comprehensive documentation of environments and support
    • Efficient cost control
  • Assist with all auditing requirements including NIST, SOX, and other customer requests.
  • Work with a team of world class IT, engineering, and business professionals.

YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 8+ years of experience in IT.
  • 5+ of those years of experience in an infrastructure focused technology role.
  • 3+ of those years of experience in a leadership role or demonstrated ability to lead a team.
  • In-depth knowledge of one or more of the following:
    • Kubernetes, VMware, Linux, Windows, Configuration Management, Automation, and/or Infrastructure as Code.
    • Server and Storage hardware, Backups, HA\DR\BC, Active Directory, Group Policy, Certificate Management (PKI), DNS, or DHCP.

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:

  • Scripting, automation, or Infrastructure as Code experience.
  • Security frameworks and technology: ISO 27001, NIST 800-171, IPSEC, SSL VPNs, firewalls, etc.
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and K8s.
  • Specialist qualification in area of expertise: CISM, AWS, Azure, Microsoft, etc.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be physically able to commute to buildings.
  • Occasional exposure to dust, fumes and moderate levels of noise.

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

Base salary is only one part of Rocket Lab’s compensation package for this role. You may be eligible for company stock, stock options, or cash incentives, and can purchase discounted stock through Rocket Lab’s Employee Stock Purchase Program.
