EWC Take Five with Christian Gamarino | FIM Endurance World Championship (2024)

Christian Gamarino’s Kawasaki-powered FIM Endurance World Championship adventure continues in 2024 but with a big difference.

After helping Team 33 Louit April Moto win the 2023 FIM Endurance World Cup, the 29-year-old Italian will be keeping it green when steps up from Superstock to the headlining Formula EWC division as part of the Team Kawasaki Webike Trickstar line-up alongside Grégory Leblanc and Román Ramos.

This is what he’s had to say ahead of the four-event EWC season getting under way with the 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans in France next month.

What does the opportunity to step up to the Formula EWC category mean to you?
“For me it’s really, really good, a dream because when I was in Superstock I looked at this team, the official team if you like, as a dream. This is what I wanted to do and I’m very, very happy, it’s amazing and I can’t wait to start the new season. We already did some tests, but Le Mans will be the first real place where we can do our best.”

Why do you think Team Kawasaki Webike Trickstar chose you as one of their riders for 2024?
“Team 33 Louit April Moto is a little bit connected, they are friends, like a junior team with them. It was asked if I could do a test and after I tried the bike on the Tuesday before Bol d’Or. I was fastest and after a few more days I won the Superstock title. So for sure the week of the Bol d’Or last September was important for the decision of the team.”

How have you prepared for the upcoming season?
“We did some testing in Spain, we were not so lucky with the weather, but we did a good job because we tried a lot of things on the bike, new components, they worked well so we were happy about this. And I was happy to get to know the team and work with my team-mates. Greg is a legend and a good person and I am happy to be alongside him. I knew Román from eight or nine years ago when I was a rider in Supersport so I am also very happy to ride with him.”

What target have you set for 2024?
“Our goal and our dream is to win the championship but it’s not easy. There are races where we can do a good result, for example Le Mans, but at Suzuka we know we are not going to be the fastest. But we hope to do good results and be on the podium in the independent standings. I never raced in Suzuka. Greg and also Niccolò Canepa told me some things about Suzuka. They say to me it’s a difficult race for the temperature and because of the Japanese riders who are very fast. I hope to do the test before the race and I am very curious to be there. It’s a legendary race.”

Team 33 Louit April Moto did a great job in 2023 by winning the FIM Endurance World Cup. What result can it achieve in 2024?
“Team 33 is very fast. We won the title last year and the structure is the same so they can do it again. But we know in endurance it’s difficult to predict what can happen because the races are very tricky. For sure they can win but the other problem in Superstock is there are a lot of teams who are very fast. But surely if they won the title in 2023 it’s possible also to do it in 2024.”

The 47th edition of the 24 Heures Motos opens the 2024 FIM Endurance World Championship season from 18-21 April. Ticket information is available HERE.
