About The Role

ABOUT ROCKET LAB

Rocket Lab is a global leader in launch and space systems. The rockets and satellites we build and launch enable some of the most ambitious and vital space missions globally, supporting scientific exploration, Earth observation and missions to combat climate change, national security, and exciting new technology demonstrations. Our Electron rocket has provided reliable access to orbit since 2018, becoming one of the most frequently launched rockets in the world. Neutron will be our next rocket on the launch pad, an advanced 13-tonne payload class, reusable rocket to launch the mega constellations of the future. Our space systems business includes our extensive line of satellites and components that have enabled more than 1,700 missions including the James Webb Space Telescope, NASA Psyche Mission, Artemis I, Mars Ingenuity helicopter, and more.

Join our pioneering team and launch your career to new heights!

COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Communications Lead will play a key role in sharing the Rocket Lab story globally and within our own team. We’ve already achieved so much as the world’s leading small satellite launch company, but we’re just getting started. The Communications team is at the forefront of Rocket Lab’s most exciting next steps, including our interplanetary missions to the Moon, Mars, and Venus, and the development of our new larger Neutron rocket.

Your days will be filled with hosting media tours of our launch sites and rocket factories, working with our customers to develop content about their upcoming missions, engaging with our social communities, collaborating with our video team on shoots, building relationships with media, and so much more.

If you’re a great writer, have a nose for news, get a kick out of collaborating with a diverse and talented bunch of people, and want to help spread the word about the incredible possibilities of space, we want to hear from you.

Based in our Long Beach Headquarters, you’ll be collaborating with our global team spread across Virginia, Toronto, and New Zealand (with opportunities for travel to each location, of course).

WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO:

  • Develop engaging content for our media materials, newsletters, website, social media channels, customer communications and community engagement programs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media, customers and key stakeholders.
  • Work closely with teams across the business to ensure the latest updates and exciting developments are shared across our global team.
  • Proactively develop and pitch stories to media, including op-eds, team member features and interviews.
  • Manage media tours, film crews, photoshoots and press conferences.
  • Support team members in the development of presentations and messaging for internal and external audiences.
  • Manage our conference and trade show presence.
  • Collaborate with our creative team on webcast and video content, and marketing collateral.
  • Stay up to date on the latest space news and industry updates.

YOU'LL BRING THESE QUALICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience in communications, marketing, and/or PR
  • Community management experience across social platforms
  • Impeccable writing skills with demonstrated ability to convert technical information into engaging content tailored for a diverse range of audiences.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:

  • Discretion and ability to grasp stringent security requirements and commercial sensitivities.
  • Tertiary degree in communications, marketing, public relations or equivalent.
  • Experience with Google Ads, Facebook Business Manager and Linkedin Ad.
  • Experience with videography, graphic design, photography.
  • Creativity, new ideas and a willingness to try new approaches.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure, execute on several projects simultaneously, and maintain impeccable attention to detail throughout.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, adapt quickly to change, manage your time efficiently, and enjoy the ride along the way.
  • Dedication to team, culture, and collaboration – we have each other’s backs always, we win as a team, and together we are unstoppable.
  • Strong media relationships – bonus if they’re in the space and tech industries.

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

Base salary is only one part of Rocket Lab’s compensation package for this role. You may be eligible for company stock, stock options, or cash incentives, and can purchase discounted stock through Rocket Lab’s Employee Stock Purchase Program. Employee benefits may also include medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage; 401(k) retirement plan options; paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave; paid parental leave; and other discounts and perks.

Base Pay Range (CA Only)

$80,000$160,000 USD

WHAT TO EXPECT

We’re on a mission to unlock the potential of space to improve life on Earth, but that’s not an easy task. It takes hard work, determination, relentless innovation, teamwork, grit, and an unwavering commitment to achieving what others often deem impossible. Our people out-think, out-work and out-pace. We pride ourselves on having each other’s backs, checking our egos at the door, and rolling up our sleeves on all tasks big and small. We thrive under pressure, work to tight deadlines, and our focus is always on how we can deliver, rather than dwelling on the challenges that stand in the way.
